The Doctrine of Love: Part One – Judgement

Perspective…it’s an interesting concept. 🙂 I find even those who believe they have the “right” perspective (in attempting to stay “neutral” or not have one at all) can be just as adamant about their “correctness” as those who claim that their opinion is outright “truth”.

After perusing a few different status updates today, it has occurred to me that the world we live in is extremely objective – there is no avoiding the existence of gravity, the existence of light and the lack of it (dark), or the overall concept of cause and effect. Our lives, however, (our existence as humans IN this objective world) are all subjective. Interesting, don’t you think?

For that reason, I would like to bring up something that has been on my mind a lot over the past few years…what is the benefit of judgement? To call someone or something (an idea, a concept, a person’s creation) a name (stupid, weak, inept) or to attach any negative assessment or label of any kind is, in its own right, a very “interesting” approach to interacting with others.

How do we think that it’s okay to assume that our own positive lifestyle habits (whatever they may be) give us license to criticize and condemn the negative behaviours in others? No matter what the behaviour or lifestyle may be…when in the existence of human kind has the use of negative reinforcement ever proven to be ultimately successful in increasing a person’s self-awareness, contributing to said person’s intrinsic motivation (or ultimately accomplishing the goal of bringing meaning and purpose to life)?

It kinda reminds me of the concept of grace…but that’s a post for another day. 🙂
